FYI, the San Jacinto class library project's next release (1.9.5; currently in CVS only) includes a compact implementation of MIME/multipart and SAAJ/JAXM. No dom4j.jar, no mail.jar, just a DOM parser a small library JAR. The MIME handling successfully generates and parses SOAP with attachments messages already, and it serves the purpose described in this article. JAXM implementation is nearly completion: when done it will be a drop-in replacement for Sun's RI.
